Can adding drainage make erosion/standing water worse?

Greetings,

I have a property that has a high water table with streams running along three of the four borders and downhill from a couple small ponds. The land gets lots of potholes (sometimes large) and changes a lot over time. I have to bring in fill every couple years and also end up with standing water in places during the winter. There is one place that runs along the middle of the property where water tends to pool as it is lower than either side. I was thinking about adding a large french drain that runs the length of this area with a slope towards a stream. I would place gravel on top of the pipe and cover with turf. Would this help alleviate the erosion problems and standing water problems on the property or would this just make the middle of the property a path of least resistance for the water and actually increase water flow around the property? In other words, would the flow of water through the pipe attract surrounding water due to water's attraction to itself?
