Can a canadian electrician work in Europe?

i know a Canadian Certified Industrial Electrician wanting to work in Switzerland. would this be a difficult thing to do?

I know lots of British electricians working in Canada. As far as I know, all they had to do was learn the codes and take a few tests to obtain a licence and I would imagine that it would work the same way for a Canadian going to Europe.

Infact in Europe, they work on a 110 volt system the same as here. In Britain, even the household service is 220 volts but that would be no problem to a licenced electrician either.

The only other requirement would be that work permits would have to be applied for and the ease of getting those usually works on a supply and demand basis for the trade at the time.

Good luck to your friend, working and living over there for a while can be a great experience.

About 15 years ago I knew some engineers who went to Ireland to work. They got Irish passports because their gandfathers were Irish. When they got Irish passports they could work anywhere in the common market.
The Irish goverment was doing it to get people back for some reason, Do they still do it?

Switzerland is not the easiet country to get into to work. I am a Dual citizen (Canadian/Italian.. my parents were both born in Italy) and even though I am a member of the EU community, I cannot just go to work in Switzerland. A relative of mine lives and works there, only because her husband is a Swiss Citizen. Try to contact the Swiss consulate in Canada (where this is I have no idea) to find out what the conditions are to get your working papers.

That aside, I dont blame you for wanting to work in Switzerland. It is a beautiful country, and from my encounters with people from there, I have found that the Swiss people are, for the most part, quite content with their standard of living.

I have to agree with justkeepgiviner, the best approach would be to contact the Swiss consulate in Canada....They would have all the answers.

this has job vacancies for the uk and applications are welcome from all over the world

Ove Arup and similar consultanacy companies use a lot of foreign workers because of the shortage of suitable applicants so if you want a job...no problemo

ask for back copies because not all advertisements are replied too, due to the workforce shortage
