I have a soil report that recommends a 'California' style slab, or a waffle slab. Now, I am very familiar with a waffle slab, but what is a 'California' style slab?

It's probably a reference to a monolithic slab, where the edge is thickened (12" wide x 12" deep for instance) and any interior walls have shovel footings. As opposed to a "floating" slab next to a stem wall.

The typical slab in California is two-way post tensioned.

California or non-Ribbed post tension slab is another kind of post tension slab. basically we have Ribbed, Mat post tention slab but california if like conventional slab but it is 5" and has deep footing and has the grater moment of inertia then ribbed foundatin.
