Hello

I am a UK civil engineer currently working in the US. I am interested as to whether I can qualify to take a PE exam in Civil Engineering for the state of Claifornia. If so, how long will it take before I can sit the exam?

I have an undergraduate degree in Civil Enigneering, a PhD (4 years post graduate experience), 5 years working in an engineering consultancy in the UK and 7 months experience here in the US.

many thanks

Steve

That's the appropriate reference. Now for the "personal perspective" :[ol][li]If you are already licensed in the U.S. in another jurisdiction, then the registration process seems to go a little easier.[li]If your education was from institutions that are recognized by NCEE the process is easier.[li]If your five years work for a U.S. firm in the U.K. included supervision by an engineer licensed in the U.S. (but not California) - and will vouch for your abilities - then the process will go easier.[li]If your five years work for a U.S. firm in the U.K. included supervision by an engineer licensed in California - and will vouch for your abilities - then the process will go much easier.[li]Expect to get no credit for those five years of work if the work was not supervised by an engineer licensed in the U.S.[/ol]I hope this helps you manage your expectations -
