Hi,

How are error estimates calculated?. For example Pro/Mechanica has an analysis method called "Single Pass Adaptive technique" wherein it runs a first pass analysis with a user defined Polynomial order. Then for the second pass it fixes a polynomial order based on the local stress error estimate.I would like to know how this local stress error estimate is calculated. I don't necessarily require a reply centered on Mechanica. A general idea would suffice.

Thanks,

TS

You can find a good reference on the P-version and associated error estimate in Finite Element Analysis by Szabo.
