Calculating material around internal threads

How do you determine if there is enough material beyond threads of a tapped hole?

We are fabricating our own swingbolt closures, similar to Tube-Turns T-Bolt closure, and need to prove the pin diameter is sufficient for the tapped hole that goes through the diameter of the pin.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The long answer is to use an equation like that in VDI 2230 for thread strength vs. wall thickness of the internally threaded part. The short answer is to use the same number as the width across flats on a hexagonal nut of same/similar strength/size to your part.
