Anybody have any useful/published methods for calculating heave of a basement. The excavtion will be 4m deep and in an overconsolidated high plasticity clay? Some advise on time for heave to occur would also be helpful.
I was looking at possibly doing oedometer tests. I anticipate that the samples will initially swell in the oedometer and thought that the load applied to restrain the samples could be used to calculate an mv vlue. Does this make sense?
If it does then I could use the mv value to calculate the heave, using conventional consolidation theory. However, I have no idea over what depth you would assume the heave occurs.
Thanks in anticipation.
