Are there any references to size Cables for DC applications?
I know that cable size should be smaller.

See:
IEC 60287-1-1 CH.1.4.1.2 DC cables up to 5 KV
No dielectric losses involved, no skin effect, no proximity effect. Since wd=0 , skin effect and proximity
effect are 0 –the conductor resistance is less-and no shield, armor and conduit loses then the current will
be more elevated. The percent of permissible d.c.current increasing with respect to a.c.will be more
for elevated voltage[however up to 15 KV the dielectric losses are negligible] and large conductor cross section.

The National Electrical Code does not make a distinction.
