Hello!
I’m trying to calculate impedances of a buried single-circuit cable system.
In the handbook of electric power calculations (H. Wayne Beaty, 2001) I found a very useful chapter written by R. A. Rivas. It says:
“...The method and the formulae proposed in Wedepohl and Wilcox (1973) and Dommel (1992) are appropriate to describe the electric quantities associated with buried single-circuit cable system. Such a formulation takes into account the skin effect in the conductors, approximates the ground return corrections proposed in Pollaczek (1931), which are the appropriate corrections for underground cables, to closed-form expressions, and allows system studies, if desired, at frequencies higher than power frequency...”
Dommel (1992) writes: “...Wedepohl’s approximations are amazingly accurate up to 100 kHz...”.
Although the complete calculation procedure using Wedepohl and Wilcox formulae is given by R. A. Rivas, I would like to find additional information dealing with Wedepohl and Wilcox approximations.
1. First of all I’d like to ask if anyone knows where I can find or buy the following publication (I have searched everywhere, I just don’t know where else to look):
Wedepohl, L. M. and D. J. Wilcox. 1973. “Transient Analysis of Underground Power-Transmission Systems-System-Model and Wave-Propagation Characteristics,” Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Vol. 120, No. 2, pp. 253–260, February.
2. I am also interested in:
Pollaczek, F. 1931. “Sur le Champ Produit par un Conducteur Simple Infiniment Long Parcouru par un Courant Alternatif (“On the Field Produced by an Infinitely Long Wire Carrying Alternating Current,” French translation by J. B. Pomey),” Revue Générale de l’Electricité, Vol. 29, No. 2, pp. 851 – 867.
3. Maybe someone can name any other literature or publication, which deals in detail with Wedepohl and Wilcox formulae.
4. Do I understand correctly that the Wedepohl and Wilcox method is one of the most precise approaches to calculate cable constants (for three single-core buried cables)?
