I have a mansard roof I am trying to analyze for wind pressures and the mansard section is a high pitch (20/12) with a flat roof on top. I was using ASCE7-10 Chpt 30 Part 4 and using the tables they have for roof pressures on mansard roofs. This is the only section that addresses C&C for mansard roofs in ASCE-7 but I think the values from the table are giving me some very conservative numbers. The reason why I feel this is overly conservative is due to the high pitch of the mansard and it acting closer to a wall then a roof. In my logical thinking the actual pressure would be between a wall and a 45 degree gable on the mansard and regular flat roof pressures on top but I know they have done extensive wind load testing for the ASCE7-10 values. Anyone have a good approach to analyzing this situation?
