I have a handle which is a rod attached to a pivot bracket. I want to determine what I need to know to select a sleeve bushing to put in my pivot bracket. I know my maximum load that I will pull on the handle with. The bushing would need to withstand that load. If I do a force balance and apply half of the load to one of two bushings and divide that load by my projected bushing area (diameter x length), is that stress the stress I need to use to select a bushing, or is there something more complicated going on?

Thanks,
J

I don't understand why you a applying half your calculated load to the bearing, but yes, the projected area is used for stress calculations

I applied half the load because there were two bushings and the load was distributed over the two.
