Does anyone know of any specifications as to what the minimum distance between a feedback resistor to the power source and switcher is? Would 2-3 inches be too far away? What are (if any) the effects of placing it this far away?

I think you mean maximum distance. 2 to 3 inches may be OK, depending on your layout. A good clean PCB, and it should be no problem. Anything else, and you will probably be picking up enough noise to adversely affect your regulation.
