Hi all,
I am trying to simulate a fracture toughness test (compact tension, displacement controlled) where a short brittle crack 'snapped' through before ductile tearing occurred. Does anybody know the best way to try and simulate this? I know a load or a displacement that the brittle crack extensions happens, but implementing this in FEA is tough (for me!). Currently I'am running a model up to the point at which the brittle crack event takes place and then using a secondary model with a longer crack to import the stress field from the first model into the new model (predefined field). This works well, but the second model starts with the undeformed mesh and previous stress field. I have tried importing an initial state using the same method, but this keeps the original mesh without the crack extension.
I want to have an instantaneous crack extension after some displacement and before some more displacement. Can anybody help?
Will
