I have a bridge over a meandering channel that I am trying to model. The skew is 40 degree. When I enter skew angle the bride using bridge/culvert skew, it increases the width of bridge piers by 10 times reducing bridge opening and raising headwaters over the roadway and overtopping it. According to Flood Map, roadway does not overtop. I am trying to find out what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?

perhaps your flood map is wrong

I also understood that the modeling skew is not the base flow, but flood flow skew. Larger flows usually bypass / over top the stream meander. I'm not saying to just assume this happens, but you could check to see if that is happening with a quick ratings curve at a few of the u/s x-secs.
