I don't know how you could ever try to hide that. "No officer, there is no way I hit that bridge. The boat came like that I had to pay extra for the steel on the front of my ship.... kind of like racing stripes"

I saw aerial video footage on CNN and the spans hit were not over the navigation channel but were spans closer to the river bank. There was also a very clear water gauge painted on one of the piers.

Makes you wonder what happen that the vessel was so far off course.

Being on the water in the cold wintertime would lead me to suspect fog was involved, but I haven't see that anywhere.

Well, my question is, was the water high or something?
The ship travels this path often it seems.
It didnt appear to even be close to clearing the bridge.

It looks to me like they were close to clearing the bridge, just barely tapped it with the bridge on the ship, and that brought it down.

The ship seems to be very high in the water, perhaps that's part of the issue and they needed ballast. Or the water could be high, or they could have tried to go under the wrong span for reasons unknown. Also, in the reading I did a week ago, it wasn't clear to me if they went under THIS bridge previously or not.
