Brass grates

Can anyone tell about advantages of brass grates in onshore plants? Is it better than galvanized steel grates? Are there any disadvantages (corrosion, strength etc) in using brass grates?

Bronze rather than brass used in marine applications, for corrosion reasons.

There are a few reasons for very carefully verifying any apparent reasons for using brass (or marine bronze) grates rather than galvanized steel or simple cast iron fittings.

Money.
Money.
Money.

Few things will be more expensive than large brass castings - especially if only a few are going to have to be made to a specialty low-quantity order.

Brass will be significantly weaker than steel, so a brass fitting will be heavier (and cost more) for the same size, holding up the same traffic weight. If the grates are accessible, just plan on replacing them every 15-20 years. Cast iron street manway covers are capable of lasting dozens of years exposed to all weather and corrosive conditions.
