Hello. Has anyone of you used the card *boundary_non_reflective in LS Dyna?

I'm trying to do a FEM-simulation of a plate impacting a long slender rod. To improve the efficiency I want to simulate only a short section of the rod. To do this I would need to use a boundary that does not reflect the wave from the impacting plate, thereby altering the impact response.

I have tried using the *boundary_non_reflective card on a section of nodes in the end of the rod but this does not seem to do anything and the wave bounces around in the rod. Is there anybody that has any advice on how to get this card to work or any other way of doing the simulation without using the entire length of the rod?
