Bottom Plates - Minimum Width

Clause 3.4.1 in API 650 states that sketch plates shall have a minimum nominal width of 72 inches. Usually on a floor plate layout there are 4 pieces that are "pie" shaped. Does this mean that one or both sides of this "pie" must be at least 6 feet from the lap to the shell?
