If the factor for shear strength is 0.62 of the tensile strength for carbon steel. DO you know where can I get a reference for this method? Because I need to prove this is the correct calculation to my customer. I need a reference which can prove this is the accepted way to do calculation.

The ratio of ultimate shear strength to ultimate tensile strength is shown to be 0.6 on page 33 the 1986 edition of VDI 2230, Systematic Calculation of High Duty Bolted Joints. This value is assumed to hold true in the absence of actual data.

As for actual data, try materials property websites such as

or material producers sites to find actual ultimate shear and tensile strengths.
