Can a smaller bolt diameter than the one recommended in ASME B16.5 be used to install a PRV valve, provided the manufacturer of the valve delivers bolting calculations to support this.
We received PRV’s with 8” ASME B16.5 RTG flanged connection on the discharge side. The bolt hole diameter is 7/8” instead of 1” as required per ASME B16.5. We are looking at using 3/4” instead of 7/8” stud bolts.
Re-machining the bolt holes on site is not accepted by the manufacturer. They are arguing that by removing material from the flanges the valves would have to be dismantled and hydrotested.
Sending back the valves to the vendor to be re-machined is out of the question given the time contraints and country specific rules that prevent something imported to be "exported".
