So what is the bottom line for safety when it comes to blanketing large crude storage tanks with natural gas? I understand the concept of UFL/LFL, no conceptual explanation needed here. What I am interested in is what it actually takes to safely and practically implement this practice on real storage tanks that will be operating within a facility. Here are some questions of mine:
1. Do the backup PVRVs need flame arrestors?
2. How does one "start up" a tank that will be under a blanket
3. Is O2 monitoring required?
4. Where are flame arrestors required in the vent lines? Do the backup PVRVs need flame arrestors? On the flare line?
