Is there a difference? Sometimes I see callouts for Black Zinc Plating, sometimes I see Zinc Plating with Black Chromate. What are the differences?...if any.

Where I come from there is no difference. The process involves converting the outer layers of zinc to a hexavalent/trivalent chromate and applying a dye or silver nitrate. Black is one of several colours available including clear silver, gold and olive drab.
