There are a number of studies out there that state black steel pipe with a nitrogen generator (as supervisory) in a dry pipe system provides better corrosion resistance within the pipe, versus galvanized pipe and a typical oilless air compressor.

However, as dry pipe systems are often installed in open environments subject to freezing, would the use of black steel pipe over galvanized pipe be cause for concern, given the very limited / no corrosion resistance on the external pipe surface? I'm located in NYC, which does get rather humid in the summer months, although hardly a 'marine' environment that would facilitate serious amounts of corrosion.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
