BIM with revit

All,

I am tasked with transferring our modelling procedure over to a BIM process. We will be using Revit. My question is do all of the disciplines get placed into one Revit file, or is there a better way to collaborate between structural, mechanical, electrical etc...

If anyone had a simple example of the BIM modelling workflow for a building that would be very helpful

I'm used to seeing each discipline working in their own model. We link in the ARCH and MEP models similar to xref'ing in CAD.

We'll usually build are model off the linked in Arch model which keeps things aligned. Occasionally either the Arch model or MEP model will move and you'll need to define a shared point to realign everything, pretty rare with an Arch model but seems to be the norm for the MEP models around here.
