I am adding air scour to an existing, rapid sand filter at a municipal water treatment plant. What is the best (or traditionally most used) pipe material for the air header pipe?

The blower will be located outside in a small blower building. About 25 feet of pipe will be buried. Will need around 100 ft of 8 to 10 inch pipe. Pressure will be around 10 PSI with a volume of around 1500 scfm.

Plastic/PVC Schedule 80? Schedule 10 Stainless Steel? Carbon/Black steel?

Thin wall spiral welded stainless steel

I've typically used Sch 10 SS ;however, I have used Sch 5 to save costs. Its low pressure; but, it will heat up, particularly near the blower. Why bury it? Keeping it exposed won't damage it, even outside.

Double check things with the filter/air scour grid manufacturer to make sure you have appropriate connections and drop sizes.
