Hi everyone,

I have few pipes in SA333 Gr.6 which have to be finned and bended (both ends bended & unfinned). Those pipes are ruled by ASME 1. OD 48.26 mm and average wall thickness is 3.68 mm. Bend radius is 100 mm.

We know that according to ASME B31.3, §332.4 (b) Heat treatment is applicable "for any material requiring impact testing, where the maximum calculated fiber elongation after bending or forming will exceed 5%"

In our case the material grade requires impact testing, and the calculated fiber elongation is 24,13% (after bending.

So, if my coils was ruled by B31.3 then I know that heat treatment will be applicable. But in my case the coils is ruled by ASME 1 which speak about only bending of austenitic material.

What would be your opinion regarding my case ? Heat Treatment or no heat treatment ?

Thank you in advance,
