benchmarking in maintanence in Industries

I'm doing a project on Application of Benchmarking conxept in maintanence,ild like to know first what is Benchmarking and how can it be applied in Industrial Maintanence.

The only benchmarking I've heard of is to establish a MINIMUM requirement(s) for whatever you are evaluating, and then base all of your proscective possbilities (and/or solutions) on that benchmark. Are they better? Are they worse? For example, you could establish a certain cycle time or tool life as one of your Benchmarks and compare everything to that.

Use a search engine such as Google and do a general search on Benchmarking. There are several organizations that promote benchmarking in various industries and topics so you'll find some info there. I recently went through a similar search and found lots of info.
