I have a 14' bearing wall I'm replacing with a microlam beam. This is typical constuction wood framed 2 story Colonial house with pre fab roof supported by the outside walls. The wall is an inside wall supporting two 14'X14' bedrooms floors only. Is a microlam beam still the way to go or is there better solutions available? What would be the technical name for the mirco-lam and/or suggested beam to order? What would the size of the beam be? I assume I can double the beam to fit in exsisting 3.5" wall thickness. Will Home Depot or Lowes carry this?
