Hi All,
I am new to this forum but had a question if any of you know what a Basic dual dimension should look like or if there is a standard that depicts this.

Thanks,
Marc

also, is there a way to upload files? That would help you to understand more what i am asking.

thank you but I have ASME 14.5 and caoont find anything in it referring to this.

ASME Y14.5M-1994

Section 1.3.9 Basic Dimension - A numerical values used to describe the theorectically exact size, profile, orientation or location of a feature or datum target.

Section 1.3.10 Reference Dimension - A dimension, usually without tolerance, used for information purpose only. A reference dimension is a repeat of a dimension or is derived from other values shown on the drawing or on related drawings. It is considered auxiliary information and does not govern production or inspection operations.

I think your key answer is in the word derived. The dual dimension is derived from the primary dimension that happens to be basic.

faq559-1100 for images and faq559-1177 for files.

DrawingsGuy,

A basic dual dimension sounds to me like a mistake. I provide alternate units for reference only. Only the official dimension can be basic.
