Barley density/volume vs total belt amps relationship

Hello,

I am trying to find a relationship between the density/volume of barley with the overall amps used on a leg belt. Roughly 160 tons of barley is soaked in steep tanks and then moved into germination tanks where the barley is left for 3 days to encourage growth. While in the germ tanks large screws mix and spray water on the barley. The amount of water absorption and volume increase depends on the variety and harvest location. Temperature and humidity is monitored throughout the process. Also water may or may not be sprayed onto the barley at various flow rates when removing it from the germination tanks. So far I have been taking density samples before unloading and comparing it to the type of barley but this only give a wide range of random data. Any ideas on how to relate the properties in an equation?

If I am understanding the question correctly, you are trying to develop a relationship between the weight lifted up bucket elevator (measured by the amp load on the bucket elevator motor), and the density of the kernels of barley after they have absorbed various amounts of water. Are you using historical samples, what types of measurements are you taking, how consistent is your data so far? What sort of means and standard deviations are you getting? I think a little more info may be helpful.
