We have a concrete slab with the bars extended upwards into a wall. These act as dowels to provide continuity with the wall vertical reinforcing.

The slab bars are at a different spacing than the wall steel. What is the maximum distance the slab dowels should be separated from the wall vertical reinforcing.

Is it a moment connection between the slab and the wall?

ACI provides limits on noncontact lap splices, requiring the spacing between bars be less than 1/5 of the required lap splice length or 6 inches. 318-08 12.14.2.3.

I don't know if you wall is a shear wall.

But if it is the case, the dowel required to resist sliding of shearwall at construction joint need to go through the slab and develop on both side (two construction joint) !

I usually use short straight bar for dowel reinforcement and the rebar of the slab finish with a hook.

jwilki... yes, there is a moment to be transferred from the wall to the slab...

UcfSE... thanks, and whether the splice is contact or non-contact depends on what is specified or stipulated?
