First off, there's something weird going on with the search here for me. It won't find any threads pertaining to "balloon", when I can clearly see a thread with balloon in the title on page 2. Won't find anything for "sketch" either.

Anyways, I have a bunch of balloons on a drawing that I can't reassociate to geometry. The model was copied and had some components replaced and then I did a Replace Component. All balloons on drawing are now brown and dashed. When I Edit them and select a reference again they won't turn yellow. I have to create new ones to replace them.

I have this happen fairly frequently. With notes too sometimes. If I select a reference for the leader I don't understand why it won't work.

Any ideas?

Balloon leaders are usually associated to an object, but the balloon itself can also be associated to other annotations or geometry. If you reattach the leader(s) and the balloon still shows as 'retained' try this:
Edit -> annotation -> origin, pick the balloon and press OK. This should reset the balloon origin to be set at the current position without any associations.

You didn't mention the version of NX you are using. The menu location should work for most recent versions with the possible exception of NX 9.

Yes these all have leaders on them that I'm trying to reassociate. So far this has worked on a few but most still won't.

I'm using NX9. I found this command in the old menu dropdown and added it to a ribbon menu for future use. Curiously it doesn't seem to exist in the 'native NX9' commands.

Try selecting the leader with the ALT key held down, select the new edge, and then move the balloon to a new spot.

NX 8.5.3.3

That doesn't work either but, admittedly, the only place I haven't just gone and made new balloons is in a section view that won't update, so maybe that's not the best place to try it.
