B16.5 Flanges

I'm in instrumentation and have a question with regard to flanges to B16.5 standards. If a vendor is supplying an inline magnetic flowmeter with CL 150 flanges to B16.5, can I assume that the flanges supplied are raised face (and not flat faced) ?
The instrument data sheets sent to him asks for CL 150 RF flanges. I've researched the internet and everything related to B16.5 refers to RF flanges but, it also says that you can in fact, get flat faced B16.5 flanges but, it looks like they originally started life as RF and had the facing machined off. (I did also notice that B16.5 covers 'lap joint' flanges which look flat faced.)

Flat face flanges are included in ASME B16.5 for mating to cast iron flanges. I would not worry much about carbon steel or alloys. Still send the confirmation request to the bidder during the evaluation.

B16.5 has a slew of different facings, none of which are the default as far as I know. RF is the most common for steel flanges.

If in doubt, ask the vendor.

Never assume anything that can't be positively verified in one way or another. Why wouldn't you just call the vendor and ... ask him, or better yet, just tell him what you want?

My reason for posting here was to try and find out a little bit about B16.5 standards and hopefully receive some feedback that would help educate me a little and clarify my confusion.
I did receive good advice telling me that my assumption was incorrect and there was reasoning attached with the answers.
I was looking for a little bit more than just yes/no answer from the vendor.

, that you want RF generally would imply the complete understanding that, if your vendor wanted to get paid and have any further possibilities of future business, RF is what you will get. Not much reason I could imagine that you'd think otherwise, although errors are indeed possible. To prevent those errors, given the PO specing RF and all, I would assume that the only way you'd have to do that is to call the vendor and positively verify RF. OK, so that's it?

thanks for the reply. The vendor's quote came back with 'CL 150 flanges per B16.5' but there was no mention of RF so, I knew clarification was needed from him. It was the fact however, that he quoted B16.5 that got me thinking that this spec could be for raised face flanges only. Hence the reason for asking.
