[b]Spaceball 3003 problems in NX3 w/usb port[/b]

I am trying to get a spaceball 3003 to work on UG NX3 using a USB port with no luck. Our computers have no serial ports, only USB. The 3003 has a serial plug. So I bought a USB to RS232 adapter cable thinking it would work, it did'nt. I installed a driver for the cable, and 3 drivers that I found for the spaceball, none of which worked. Our system administrator did some researching and came to the conclusion that the 3003 will not work with USB, even with the adapter. We are using XP pro.
