avalanche control structure

Does anybody knows about the different types of structures
to control snow avalanches?Any thread in internet will be useful.

I once was a participant in the design of an avalanche "road shed" to allow snow avalanches to pass over a road rather than sweep on it, killing people. It is on US550 near Ouray, Colorado. I still remember quite a bit about the project.
