Hi All,

Need some clarificaion around what pressures to use for modeling in Autopipe.

Our pump operating pressure is about 340m (dead head 400m). The thermal relief valves setting is set at 400m (hydrocarbon duty).

What pressure should be used in the model in conjunction with the seismic loads?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure if I understand your issue. What pressures do you have, rather than heights?
I would use the following in AutoPIPE; T1 = site minimum temperature condition (0 pressure), T2 ÷ Tx = operating cases, Tx+1 = design case.
For the design case, use you the design pressure accordign PID. take operating pressures from your line list.

Relief valve set pressure is your design

For seismic design to B31.1 or B31.3 use pipe design pressure. For design to B31E use the operating pressure.

Autopipe does not cover B31E yet, but there are work arounds.

The next question is how to match local seismic loading codes with the America piping design codes. This not easy and requires an understanding of how the local codes relate to ASCE 7-10.
