Automation of extracting data from SAP2000

I am trying to automate the data extraction process from SAP2000 or ETABS using their API. I am not much experienced with Python, but I am reading online that it can be done through Python scripts, which also help in modifying the models automatically to represent the retrofit conditions. Please let me know if anybody has done similar work to automate the post-processing in SAP2000 or ETABS. It would be really helpful.
