First time user so please forgive any transgressions of etiquette.
I have a question about doing a rock correction for a proctor. ASTM D4718 seems to call for a moisture content specifically of the coarse fraction, and that is indeed a field to fill out in the Geosystem program I use to generate reports. My question is how to go about getting a moisture for just the coarse fraction. If I were to sieve it out right now it would be covered in moist fine material that would presumably throw off the moisture value. Is there a way to account for this? I considered drying and washing the coarse fraction and then using absorption as an assumed moisture, but I think the field value is probably notably higher than that and I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make for my proctor vs. field measurements. I've read all the referenced ASTMs and can't seem to find a specific procedure for completely separating coarse from fine for moisture contents.
