ASTM B-117 Salt Fog Panel Evaluation. 1

The question has come up at what side on a chromate conversion coated panel should be evaluated after ASTM B-117-3 salt fog testing. The panels are required to tilt at a 6 degree angle. The front side is exposed to precipitating salt fog that runs down the face where as the back side is only exposed to the salt fog mist. The spec. states that the panels must be arranges so that they do not drip on each other or be exposed to direct spray so does this mean that the reverse side is the evaluation side?
 
No, the top side (front as you describe it) is the evaluation side. If you are testing multiple pieces, then they cannot be placed in a manner that would allow dripping on this side.
