The ASTM A53 standard includes the following statement:

1.3.1 Type F is not intended for flanging.

What does this statement mean? Does it mean that "Type F" pipe should not be joined by flanges?

Re-read paragraph 1.3. The statement means that Type F is not suitable for forming into a flanged shape, because the furnace-butt weld is not a high quality weld. The ERW pipe has a better weld which will not fracture as easily as the butt weld during forming/flanging operations.

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply.
