Does anyone know the main diferences between pipe manufactured to ASTM A135 versus A53? Specifically, would it be adventageous to specify that piping for a fire sprinkler system be A53 rather than A135 when A135 is generally acceptable for fire sprinkler systems?

When you say "advantageous" do you have in mind other than price characteristics? If corrosion resistance is an issue than zinc-coated pipes might be preferred.

ASTM A 53/A 53M
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR PIPE, STEEL, BLACK AND HOT-DIPPED, ZINC-COATED, WELDED AND SEAMLESS

ASTM A 135
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR ELECTRIC-RESISTANCE-WELDED STEEL PIPE

No, I'm not too concerned about price at the moment, just the differences between the two specifications. I guess when I say "adventageous" I am referring to the performance as it would relate to pipe use within fire sprinkler systems. This could involve pressure ratings, threadability, wall thickness, corrosion resistance (although not generally a concern for wet-pipe systems) or other performance criteria.

I'll check the link you provided as well.
