Assigning different Material properties to the same part 1

Hello again

I am having trouble assigning different material properties to a single extruded part. I was able to do it successfully to an extruded shell part, via partitioning the part and assigning the props to the two unique sets that were allowed to be created.
However when I follow this method again for a solid extruded part, when I go to assign the material sections, it only allows me to generate a set that covers the section for the entire part, not recognizing there is a partition dividing the part. I've made sure the partition cuts both the OD and ID of the tube I'm working with. Please refer to attached image to see what I am describing, there is a datum plane at the location of the partition and the divide is visible.

Is there something I am missing here? Or is it not possible. It was my understanding this was possible.

Did you use 'Partition Cell' and not 'Partition Face'? Otherwise I guess your partition is not correct and is not cutting fully through the solid. Use Tools -> Query ->Part attributes to check how many cells your part has.
 
I used face partitioning, selected the OD along with the ID of the tube. There is a partition line on both OD and ID to indicate that its cut through. But it's as if it only partitioned those faces and not the entire body? Using that method I thought it should cut through entirely.
Query says It is a solid part(1 cell, 6 solid faces, 6 edges, 6 vertices)

EDIT:
By using cell partition and defining the datum plane it cuts entirely through and am able to define unique sets now. Thank you Mustaine3 for the help.​
