Assembly reference planes don't coincide with part planes 2

Hello there

I inserted the first part into a new assembly. Now I had read somewhere that the first part, upon insertion, gets fixed and its reference planes (Top, Front, Right) coincide with those of the assembly, and the origins coincide too. However, that doesn't seem to be the case in this assembly. Any ideas?

You're right... but only if you click the green check mark within the INSERT PART dialog box. If you click in your graphics window - I believe it interprets that as a "no, place it here" & then you don't get it at the origin, but the planes should still be parallel. Try it & see if I'm roght. You can always FLOAT your part & put it where you want it. The first part in the assembly needs to be fully mated in place, but it don't necessarily have to be FIXED there. You can accomplish the same with mates.

This true. However you need to insert your first part on the origin of the assembly. If you don't your planes will not coincide with each other.

Depends on the design intent... you're not wrong.. just not completely right...
