Assembly feature: chamfer not possible?

Hi,

I have an assembly and I created a hole in the assembly.
Now I want to add a chamfer to the hole edge but to my surprise this is not possible. The 'add chamfer' icon and menu items are greyed out.
Is this normal?

You can redefine the hole to include the chamfer as part of the hole or you could add a revolved cut.
 
Assembly features are meant to represent operations you would do with an assembly of parts in real life. That's why you cannot add material in the assembly, because that's not typically done after things are assembled. That's also why assembly features don't show up by default in the individual parts. Those things don't exist until the parts are assembled.

A chamfer falls under that category, although as part of a hole it should be allowed. Add it to the hole feature is the best solution.

I can only add a chamfer in the hole definition if I make the hole a clearance hole for a screw. But then I can not specify the exact hole diameter. Since I need to define the exact hole diameter, I have to make it a 'simple hole', but in that case I can not add a chamfer (that option is not available in the hole creation dashboard).


I guess I will have to make it a sketched hole, as Dr G suggested.

The other option is to rethink if this needs to be an assembly feature. Is it a hole placed after assembly? If not, a part level feature is more appropriate and doesn't carry the overhead of being dependent on the assembly.
 
Weldments often need secondary machine operations followed by chamfers.
 
Have you set the hole_diameter_override option?

That is true. Creating the hole and chamfer in the part would make it easier. But the assembly is a welded part. So, when producing it, the parts are welded together. Then some surfaces are machined to be used as mounting surfaces. These machined surfaces serve as references for the (chamfered) holes. That's why I thought it would seem more logical to create the holes in the assembly.

@kdem. I never knew that the 'hole_diameter_override' option existed. I set it to 'Yes' and indeed, I now can set the hole diameter to any diameter I want, and I can set a chamfer.
The chamfer can of course be set for only one side of the through-hole, but in this case it is exactly what I need.
If you need a chamber on both sides of the hole, a sketched hole seems to be the only option.
