Hi all,

I am trying to assemble sub-assemblies to other sub-assemblies but I am having issues. Most of the time I have no issues selecting faces and other features to use as mounting/mating surfaces but with the current model I can't seem to select any of the faces of sub-assembly "A" so that I can mate it to a face of sub-assembly "B". This model has roughly 30 parts so it is not really that big. Any ideas? I have tried activating and inactivating the parts to no avail. I am also going to try to shut down ST2 and see if that helps.

Thanks!

Joel

I think i got it. I choose the assemble tool and then activate part, next I click on the part that I want to activate and I can then select the face that I want. I do the same for the mating part/assembly.

That's correct Fonzee.
When you open an assembly, the parts are usually inactive.
To select faces/edges etc for applying relationships and measuring the part has to be activated.
If you know which part you are going to be mating to, you can always activate it before placing another part.

Having parts inactive is the way SE saves on memory usage.
If you acticate all parts in a big model (several thousand parts) you will see quite a drop in performance.
