Is it possible to save an assembly off as a new file name and have the file path for all my parts remain the same?

I have tried multiple ways and every time I save the assembly as a new name ALL the parts get copied into the new file directory. If what I am experiencing is true, there is no way to have a library of parts to draw from to save job file space.

Thanks

What you want is how SW is supposed to work. Something is very wrong.

Sounds like you want PDMWorks without having PDMWorks. Maybe somebody has found a free or cheap PDM system that is compatible with Solidworks.

Is it possible to save a copy of an assy to a different folder, without copying all its referenced components?

Yes ... just using the SW "Save as" function (with or without the "Save as copy" option), with an open assy should do it.

Copying and Pasting an assy from a Windows folder will do the same.

Using Pack and Go will also do the same, providing all the components are de-selected.

How are you saving the assy?

A Library of parts is built using individual components saved into a separate folder. I do not understand what you are trying to say/do in your last sentence.

Use Solidworks Explorer. When you get to the part in Pack and Go where you select the assembly, uncheck the parts you want to leave in their original locations. The new assembly will then reference the old components.
