I was wondering if anyone out there has any idea about how wide spread the use of this standard is going to be. It's been my experience that most companies tend to prefer to do things as they always have, and will probably stick to ASME Y14.5M (ensuring that their drawings are correct),leaving the models to their varied existing procedures.

I think you are right. Most are not familiar with it. I have been currently working on ordering this spec, but is hard to convince mgmt to use it. They usually don't care and a lot of engineers/designers are too lazy to keep up with specs.
