Hi,

I'm performing a linear elastic analysis on SolidWorks Simulation and I would clarify a doubt about the Protection Against Local Failure in SolidWorks Simulation.

Par. 5.3.2 of ASME VIII-2 says:

I found this procedure from SolidWorks guide:

Does the plot of these stresses match with the sigma required by this part of the code?
Does anyone know how to get these sigmas 1, 2, 3 on SolidWorks Simulation?

Thank you very much

ASME VIII-2, eq. 5.5 requires that the sum of the three primary principal stress will be less (or equal) then 4 times the allowable stress of the material under consideration.
By using SolidWorks Simulation you show the stress plot.
Under "Component" choose "TRI" which is the Triaxial stress = P1 + P2 + P3 (Sum of principal stress components).

Thanks very much IdanPV!
