Hi all..
I was trying to learn Branch reinforcement calculation using Appendix H of ASME B31.3. I couldn't figure out some reference to formulas given there.
(please refer ASME B31.3 page 243)
In example 1
how t(c) is got?
its given as 0.7(0.237) or 0.25 whichever is less

Minimum leg dimension of fillet weld = 0.166/0.707 = 0.235 (where to refer to get this formula?)

and lastly
in branch welds A(4) = 2(1/2){(0.235)sqr} (how they got this formula? where to refer?)

I am a novice at piping design... but very much interested to become a piping designer... above questions might seem silly also...

Thanks

For Tc refer to Para 328.5.4 on Page 62.

For 0.166/0.707 is refered to in Fig 328.5.2a on Page 62 (in the General Note)

And lastly, the formula for A4 is just the formula for the triangle made up of the weld metal x 2 since there are two welds. the formula is leg 1 x leg 2 x 1/2 which is the same as 1/2 x (0.235)^2.
