I have a new building that has a length to width ratio of approximately 10:1 (essentially and enclosed pipe rack between other buildings). When designing for ASCE7-16 chapter 27 case 3 wind loading, would it be more appropriate to apply the wind load at a 45deg angle to each windward face instead of taking 0.75*wind in each direction? I feel like the wind load on the mwfrs that is in the long direction of the building will see a larger load than what is given by the 75% because the wind surface area for the narrow face. Do to the large aspect ratio, if you applied the wind load at a 45degree angle to the building and broke that wind pressure down into the orthogonal components, the wind load along the long direction of the building would be much larger than if you used 75% of the wind load on the narrow face. Which would be the correct way to analyze the case 3 wind loading?
